Our European initative MOOQ could welcome around 100 participants joining the exciting and interactive event: The theme „The Quality of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)“ was attracting them to join us in Athens on 13th of July 2018.

The MOOQ Conference was a huge success!
„The Quality of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)“ was the hot topic on 13th of July 2018. The European initative MOOQ had invited and around 100 participants joined for an exciting and interactive event.
The state-of-the-art and latest research result from MOOQ were presented at the headquarters of the Hellenic Open University in Athens.
MOOQ is fighting for the quality of Open Education, OER and MOOCs at the international WOERC 2017!
The European and international initiative is supporting the Satellite Events on the OER quality.
The quality of MOOCs is challenged and questioned from the very early beginning. MOOCs are „Massive Open Online Courses“ and were introduced in the year 2008: The first MOOC was called „Connectivism and Connective Knowledge“ (CCK08) and organized by Stephen Downes and George Siemens. Many MOOCs followed leading to a peak in the year 2012 that was also called the „Year of the MOOCs“ by the New York Times. Currently the hype is over but the number of MOOCs and their online learners are continuously increasing.

This first Global Survey on the Quality of Open Education and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) gains more and more recognition and backing by foremost international associations and institutions, among them the International Council for Distance and Open Education (ICDE), Open Education Consortium (OEC), International Community for Open Research and Education (ICORE), Commonwealth of Learning (COL), European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU), European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN), European Association of Technology-Enhanced Learning (EATEL), Contact North (CN) and many more.
Join our Global Survey on the Quality of MOOCs!
The Global MOOC Survey is launched! It is the first Global Survey on the Quality of Open Education and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) addressing three main target groups: MOOC learners, MOOC designers and MOOC facilitators. The main long-term goal is the improvement of future MOOCs by developing quality indicators and tools. The survey will foster it through the collection of design and learning experiences and their analysis and discussion afterwards. „We are very excited to facilitate the quality debate with all interested parties worldwide“, emphasises Christian M. Stracke from the Open University of the Netherlands and MOOC expert. The leading international associations and organizations are supporting the survey including three United Nations‘ organizations. The Global MOOC Survey started now and is open until end of March 2017 to allow feedback from all interested parties. All findings from the scientific, independent and non-profit survey will be published and shared online.

MOOCs are dead! Long live MOOCs!
One provocative paper presentation at the European EDEN Conference 2016 among many other activities on MOOCs.
This year, EDEN 2016 has a strong focus on MOOCs and I’m very pleased to heavily contribute and support the debate together with my colleagues:
The presentation of my paper “MOOCs are dead!” will take place in the session D3 on Thursday, 16th of June (from 11:30 to 13:00), you are most welcome to join the discussion!
In addition Christian M. Stracke as the MOOQ coordinator will introduce our ambitious European initiative for comparing and improving the quality of MOOCs: The MOOQ presentation will take place on in the synergy session B5 on Wednesday, 15th of June (from 14:20 to 15:50).
Another speech will demonstrate the interim results of EBE-EUSMOSI, the initiative for evidence-based school education, and in particular the new assessment instrument on inclusion: It will take place in the synergy session F4 on Friday, 17th of June (from 09:00 to 10:30).
And Christian M. Stracke will also introduce the new European research consortium PBL 3.0 for combining learning analytics and semantics in problem-based learning in the same session F4 on Friday, 17th of June (from 09:00 to 10:30).
Finally OUNL colleagues are organizing the EMMA workshop as a bootcamp on MOOC Assessment for Learning in Practice: You are most welcome to join the session B6 on Wednesday, 15th of June (from 14:20 to 15:50).
